Union Minister Dr. Mandaviya and Chief Minister Sai Attend Chhattisgarh Hockey League’s Closing and Prize Distribution Ceremony

Raipur, 01 November 2026/ Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai attended the closing and prize distribution ceremony of the Chhattisgarh Hockey League at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Hockey Stadium in Raipur on Sunday. They congratulated the winning and runner-up teams, as well as players who delivered outstanding performances in the competition.

Chief Minister Shri said the league is an important initiative to encourage sporting talent in the state. It has enabled players from different regions to showcase their abilities and learn from experienced national and international players. He said Chhattisgarh has no shortage of sporting talent. Its villages, tribal areas and remote regions have immense potential. Players need appropriate opportunities, modern training and better sports facilities. With this objective, the State Government is continuously working to expand sports infrastructure and support talented players.

He said the Chhattisgarh Hockey League has commendably brought different parts of the state together through sport. Six teams—Rajdhani Royals, Nyaydhani Knights, Sanskardhani Strikers, Chakradhar Champions, Bailadila Bulls and Mainpat Titans—participated in the competition. Their participation made the event a sporting celebration for the entire state. Players from Bastar to Surguja and from Raigarh to Rajnandgaon had an opportunity to compete with one another, share experiences and improve their skills.

The Chief Minister said a major feature of the league was the participation of one Olympian in each team. This allowed the state’s young players to share the field with experienced international players and learn the finer points of the game. Such events build young players’ confidence and play an important role in preparing them for major competitions.

He said the league’s message, ‘Chalav Re Sangi, Hockey Khelbo’—has become an inspiring call encouraging the state’s youth to take up sport. Another special feature was the arrangement to broadcast matches on JioHotstar, bringing Chhattisgarh’s players to a wider audience. Commentary in Chhattisgarhi, alongside Hindi, made the event more engaging and closely connected with local culture. Viewers experienced the excitement of hockey along with the sweetness of the Chhattisgarhi language.

Chief Minister Shri Sai said the State Government is committed to identifying sporting talent, encouraging players and providing better training. The Mukhyamantri Khel Utkarsh Mission has been launched with this objective. Through the mission, the government will identify talent in villages and remote areas and connect promising players with training centres. The government aims to ensure that no talented player’s dream remains unfulfilled because of a lack of resources.

He expressed confidence that, in the coming years, the Chhattisgarh Hockey League would produce players who would wear the Indian hockey team’s jersey and win medals for the country in international competitions. He congratulated the organisers, players from all six teams, coaches and everyone associated with the successful conduct of the league. Such competitions play an important role in strengthening a positive sporting culture in the state and encouraging healthy competition among young people, he said.

Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya described the Chhattisgarh Hockey League as a role model for the entire country. He said such successful events are possible when a government has firm resolve. Besides promoting sports, these events develop good players, which is essential for sporting progress. He said hockey is the nation’s pride and an important part of India’s rich sporting tradition. Hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand brought glory to India worldwide through his extraordinary skills. His achievements continue to inspire young players to excel.

Dr. Mandaviya said a new sporting environment has emerged in the country under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership. Campaigns such as Khelo India and Fit India have increased young people’s interest in and awareness of sports. Today, they view sport not only as recreation or a means of improving physical fitness, but also as an important opportunity to showcase their talent and build a promising future.

He expressed confidence that the Chhattisgarh Hockey League would grow in scale and become more competitive in the coming years. It would provide an effective platform for players from both the state and the country to progress, while establishing a new identity for Chhattisgarh on the national sporting map.

Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Arun Sao and Shri Vijay Sharma, Skill Development Minister Shri Guru Khushwant Saheb, Member of Parliament Shri Brijmohan Agrawal and Chhattisgarh Hockey League Ambassador Shri Sardar Singh also attended the closing ceremony.
