Raipur, August 10, 2026/ Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday led a grand ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in Raipur, walking alongside thousands of citizens with the national flag in his hand. The march, from Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium to Subhash Stadium, brought together people from different sections of society, with the route echoing with slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’.

Shri Sai said the tricolour represents India’s unity, integrity, pride and the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle. “Tiranga has the power to unite 140 crore Indians,” he said, adding that despite differences in language, culture, traditions and regions, the national flag unites people through a shared sense of national pride.

Referring to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, Shri Sai urged people to hoist the national flag at their homes on Independence Day with due respect and join Tiranga Yatras.

Chief Minister said people from every part of the country and across society contributed to the freedom struggle. Many sacrificed their lives, gave up their homes and families, and laid down their lives for the motherland. Their sacrifices made India’s freedom and democracy possible.

Remembering the heroes of Chhattisgarh’s freedom struggle, Shri Sai said the state has a rich legacy of freedom fighters and people’s leaders who displayed courage and stood up for their rights during the struggle for independence. He paid tribute to Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh, who stood up for the underprivileged and needy and fought against British injustice. He also recalled Bastar’s tribal leader Gundadhur, who mobilised tribal communities against foreign rule.

Shri Sai said the struggles of Veer Narayan Singh, Gundadhur and several other known and unknown freedom fighters are an important part of Chhattisgarh’s history. He stressed the need to pass their stories and ideals on to the younger generation.

Shri Sai said Bastar is moving from years of violence and fear towards peace and development, with the efforts of the double-engine government, security forces and local communities. Areas once affected by violence are now gaining better access to roads, education, healthcare and other basic facilities. Independence Day will be celebrated across Bastar this year, with Tiranga Yatras also being held in villages and remote areas, he added.

A nearly one-kilometre-long national flag carried by school students was a major attraction during the march. Students walked in disciplined lines as thousands of citizens joined the procession.
