Raipur, October 9, 2026/ Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai attended the Karma Parab Mahotsav organised by the Mahanagar Unit of the Youth Wing of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Kanwar Samaj at Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium in Raipur on Friday. He said that Karma Tihar is a unique symbol of Chhattisgarh’s rich tribal culture, traditions, faith and gratitude towards nature. The festival reminds people to remain connected to their roots while promoting nature conservation, social unity and collective participation. He said that despite changing times, the Kanwar community has set an example for the younger generation by preserving its cultural heritage, traditions and customs. Staying connected to one’s culture and traditions is a community’s true strength.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the programme by performing traditional rituals and prayers and shared the joy of Karma Tihar with community members. He extended heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all community members and the people of Chhattisgarh on Bhado Ekadashi Vrat and Karma Tihar.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Shri Sai announced Rs. 50 lakh to construct a community building in Madwarani, Korba district; Rs. 25 lakh for a community building in Tatibandh, Raipur; and Rs. 15 lakh for a cultural stage in Jefra village, Kanker district. He also announced Rs. 10 lakh for organising Karma Mahotsav every year in Raipur. The Chief Minister appreciated the Kanwar Samaj Youth Wing and all community office-bearers for organising the grand celebration.

Karma Tihar Celebrates the Inseparable Bond Between Nature and Human Life

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that Karma Tihar is not merely a religious ritual but a celebration of the inseparable relationship between nature and human life. During the festival, people worship the Karam Daar. Community members observe fasts with devotion and faith and perform traditional rituals to worship the Karam Daar. Traditional Karma songs and dances fill the night-long celebrations with joy and enthusiasm. The following day, they break the fast after immersing the Karam Daar.

The Chief Minister said that this tradition, passed down through generations, reflects people’s faith, devotion and commitment to protecting nature.

He said our ancestors never saw nature as merely a resource. They regarded it as the foundation of life and an inseparable part of our culture. Our relationship with water, forests and land is based not only on necessity but also on faith and a deep sense of belonging. Traditions such as Karma Tihar have strengthened this relationship from one generation to another.

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has transformed this spirit of nature conservation into a nationwide public campaign through ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’.

In Chhattisgarh, the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan also continues to encourage plantation activities. The Chief Minister said education, values, organisation, and awareness are essential to a community’s progress. He encouraged the younger generation to pursue modern education, science, and technology, and to take advantage of new opportunities while staying connected to their cultural identity and values. He urged young people to stay away from addiction, make others aware of its harmful effects and further strengthen social unity.

Chief Minister Shri Sai expressed particular happiness that the Youth Wing was organising Karma Parab Mahotsav. He said that this reflects the younger generation’s awareness of its cultural heritage and willingness to take responsibility for preserving and promoting it.

Upliftment of Tribal Communities Among Government’s Highest Priorities

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that, under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, unprecedented efforts are underway to uplift tribal communities socially, educationally, and economically. He said that President Smt. Droupadi Murmu, a daughter of the tribal community, holds the country’s highest constitutional office today. This is a matter of pride and inspiration for the entire tribal community.

Speaking warmly to the gathering, Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh is also their own ‘Vishnu Bhaiya’, who belongs to their community.

He said that the state government is committed to connecting every tribal family with the mainstream of development and providing better opportunities for the younger generation to progress.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), the government is providing basic facilities to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups.

The government is connecting families in remote, hard-to-reach areas to permanent housing, roads, education, healthcare, drinking water, and other essential facilities.

Similarly, the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan is accelerating the overall development of tribal-majority villages.

The Chief Minister said the government’s priority is not merely to formulate schemes, but to ensure their benefits reach the last person in tribal society and bring meaningful change to their lives.

Special Focus on Education, Employment and Sports for a Better Future for Youth

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the state government is continuously expanding education, skill development, employment, self-employment and sports facilities to secure a better future for all young people, including tribal youth. Schools that had been closed for a long time in the Bastar region have reopened, providing better educational opportunities for children in remote areas.

He said the Tribal Youth Hostel in Delhi has increased its seats to 200 to support tribal youth preparing for competitive examinations. This will provide more young people from Chhattisgarh with better facilities and a suitable environment to prepare for the country’s prestigious competitive examinations.

The Chief Minister said that the recently organised State-Level Employment Fair in Raipur provided thousands of young people with employment opportunities. The state’s new Industrial Policy includes special provisions for Scheduled Tribes so young people can become entrepreneurs and create jobs for others, rather than only seeking jobs.

He said the state is continuously expanding sports infrastructure and training facilities to help talented sportspersons from Chhattisgarh reach national and international platforms.

Tribal regions have no shortage of talent. The government’s efforts focus on providing talented youth with suitable opportunities, training, and resources.

Government Fulfils Major Promises Made to Farmers

Chief Minister Shri Sai said the state government is committed to fulfilling Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s guarantees. After coming to power, the government fulfilled its promise to farmers by paying two years of pending paddy bonus.

The government transferred Rs. 3,716 crore into farmers’ bank accounts on Good Governance Day, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna, the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He said that the state government is procuring up to 21 quintals of paddy per acre from farmers at Rs. 3,100 per quintal.

Ensuring farmers’ economic prosperity and strengthening the agricultural sector are among the government’s major priorities. The government is working to make farming profitable and improve the lives of farmers who feed the people.

Government Committed to Livelihoods and Dignity of Forest-Dwelling Families

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the remuneration for tendupatta collection has been increased from Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 5,500 per standard bag to strengthen the livelihoods of families living in forest areas. This increase benefits lakhs of tendupatta collector families across the state. He said that the Charan Paduka Yojana has also been restarted to provide dignity and convenience to tendu leaf collectors.

The government is committed to bringing positive changes to the lives of people living in forest areas and providing them with equal development opportunities.

Mahtari Vandan Yojana Strengthens Women’s Confidence

Chief Minister Shri Sai said the Mahtari Vandan Yojana is being implemented to empower women economically across Chhattisgarh. Under the scheme, the government transfers Rs. 1,000 directly into the bank accounts of lakhs of women every month. This financial assistance helps women meet their needs, save money and start small-scale economic activities. He said that women’s economic empowerment strengthens the entire family and society. The Mahtari Vandan Yojana has also strengthened women’s confidence and decision-making ability.

The Chief Minister said that fulfilling the dream of permanent homes for low-income families is another major priority for the government. In its first Cabinet meeting after formation, the state government approved 18 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Today, the state is constructing an average of 1,600 houses every day. Similarly, the government is providing eligible landless agricultural labourer families with Rs. 10,000 in annual financial assistance under the Deendayal Upadhyay Bhumiheen Krishi Majdoor Kalyan Yojana.

Stay Connected to Cultural Roots and Contribute to Building a Developed Chhattisgarh

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that festivals such as Karma Tihar strengthen social unity, collective consciousness and cultural identity. Such celebrations allow the younger generation to learn about ancestral traditions, customs, and respect for nature. He urged young people to preserve their rich culture and traditions while making progress in education, social reform, freedom from addiction, environmental conservation, employment and entrepreneurship. He encouraged them to take advantage of modern opportunities while remaining connected to their roots and actively contribute to building a developed Chhattisgarh.

Addressing the programme, All India Kanwar Samaj National President Smt. Kaushalya Sai said that everyone must always fulfil their responsibilities towards culture, traditions and nature. She said that unnecessary interference with the environment causes ecological imbalance. Therefore, protecting nature is everyone’s collective responsibility.
